Serve Court Answers in New York

A court answer is a formal written response to a summons and complaint filed by a plaintiff. Under CPLR Article 3, a defendant has a limited window — typically 20 to 30 days after service — to answer or risk a default judgment. Getting a verified answer served on the opposing party accurately and within the statutory deadline is not optional.

What we do

How we handle court answers

We personally serve court answers on the plaintiff or plaintiff's counsel at the address of record. Up to three attempts are included in every standard tier before we escalate and advise on next steps.

Timeline

Standard service is completed in 3 to 7 business days. If your answer deadline is approaching, request same-day or rush service and we will prioritize accordingly.

FAQ

Questions about serving court answers

What happens if an answer is not served on time?
If a defendant fails to answer within the statutory period, the plaintiff can move for a default judgment. That judgment can lead to wage garnishment, bank levies, or property liens. Timely, documented service of the answer protects the defendant's right to be heard.
Does the answer need to be notarized before we serve it?
The answer itself typically requires a verification by the client or counsel under CPLR 3020. We serve what you provide. Our role is service of process, not legal drafting — consult your attorney on the form the answer must take.
Can you serve an answer on a Friday afternoon?
Yes, within our normal operating hours. If you have a Monday deadline and are submitting late Friday, contact us directly and we will do what we can.
