Oath Administration in New York
An oath is a solemn, sworn statement invoking a higher power or one's honor as surety for the truth of what is sworn. Affirmations serve the same function without the religious element. Courts, government agencies, and employers regularly require oaths to be administered by a Notary Public or other official. We administer oaths correctly and document them with a notarial certificate.

Questions about oaths notarization
- What is the difference between an oath and an affirmation?
- An oath is a sworn promise that invokes God or a higher power. An affirmation is a solemn declaration that carries the same legal weight as an oath but does not invoke any religious authority. Both are legally equivalent in New York. We administer whichever you prefer.
- Can you administer an oath remotely?
- Remote online notarization (RON) for traditional notarial acts including oaths became available in New York with certain limitations. Contact us to discuss whether your specific document qualifies for remote administration.
- Is an oath required for a deposition?
- Yes. Under CPLR 3113, the officer administering the oath must first administer an oath to the witness that the testimony they are about to give is true. If a court reporter is present, they typically administer the oath. If you need a separate notary for a deposition, contact us.
